I feel like I am in the Spring of my senility since menopause. I am forgetting everything. Are there any ways in which I can boost my brainpower that can help stave off this memory loss? Help!!

Dear Lauren,

You have already begun by reaching out to look to get help about how you can get your brain in better shape. Here are some ways which you can give your brain a workout. Many of these options are fun, too.

  • Crossword puzzles help to challenge your memory and verbal skills. The New York Times and The Washington Post have great crosswords puzzles.
  • Sudoku puzzles helps challenge your logic and reasoning and working memory. These puzzles are quite challenging. There are many books available.
  • Strategy board games like chess, backgammon and card games. These games help stretch the mind and you must focus on what’s ahead. There are local and national tournaments for some of these games.
  • Jigsaw puzzles can help your memory skills
  • Word games like Scrabble can keep your brain occupied for hours on end.

The goal is to grow your mind and give your brain a balanced workout.
