As you may recall, in September we introduced a new module entitled Know Menopause: Inside & Out. The module features a video hosted by Cheryl Ladd, and its development was made possible through a partnership with www.KnowMenopause.com.

On November 29th, Good Samaritan Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland presented this special Red Hot Mamas seminar. The evening was hosted by RHM Founder and President, Karen Giblin, and Dr. Denise Bayuszik, the head of the Gynecology Department at Good Samaritan Hospital.

The event was a huge success and was attended by over 100 women, with a few husbands present too. Red boas and mini battery operated fans were given to participants as they arrived and the room was full of energy as Karen moved around meeting and greeting the women. In addition, the event received coverage on two local TV stations. Karen did an interview for WMAR TV (ABC) and Fox 45 TV prior to the event and the local ABC affiliate sent a camera crew to film a portion of the event. The footage was shown on the local news channel the evening of the event and on the following morning news.

“Karen was a delight and the participants loved her”, said Deborah Bena, Community Outreach/Health Ministries Coordinator at Good Samaritan Hospital. “We had the opportunity to provide a comprehensive educational program on menopause to over 100 women, received great media coverage, and had lots of fun doing it. Our whole team agreed that the evening was a huge success and it doesn’t get much better that.”

In the past few months 13 of our Red Hot Mamas sites have presented this module to over 400 women. Media outlets across the nation have taken interest and we have captured nearly 1.8 million radio, newspapers, TV and online media impressions for this education program.

Thanks to the increased media attention, over 20% of the Know Menopause: Inside & Out module presentation attendees were first-timers, and 98% of all attendees plan to attend more Red Hot Mamas meetings! The attendees also overwhelmingly agreed:

“The presentation was informative” (100%)

“The subject matter discussed met my expectations” (99%)

“I learned something new during this presentation” (97%)

“I plan to attend additional Red Hot Mama meetings” (98%)

We’d like all our sites to experience such great feedback from their community. Please consider attending a Know Menopause: Inside & Out module through your local Red Hot Mamas Program. If you’d like to host an event like the one in Baltimore, please contact us. We will make an effort to help with media outreach in your area to encourage attendance from your community.
