Dear Red Hot Mamas

As we enter the new year, I reflect back to how I spent the majority of my time in the month of December 2010. It was pretty much the same as all of the Decembers of previous years. In my circumstances, it was all about wrapping up all those end-of-the-year loose ends. I was not only busy wrapping presents at the 11th hour, but I was also wrapping up all those odds and ends tasks that I always seem to put off until the end of the year. I much rather would have preferred tranquility, the enjoyment of sitting back and enjoying eating a bowl of warm soup, watching the snow fall, and just enjoying the quiet beauty of the seasons. However, that was not the case.

In January, I begin my thought process of reflecting about the previous year that ended. I ask myself, just what actually did 2010 bring? Did it bring better health? Did it bring richer opportunities? Did it bring added joy? Did it present more challenges, demands and responsibilities? Was I able to create the life that I wanted for me, my family, and those that are dear to me? Was I able to help others through Red Hot Mamas? What can I do differently in 2011?

As I embark on answering those poignant questions, I’ll attempt to look at my life again in view of the new year ahead to determine what changes need to be made. I do have extreme gratitude that there are powerful choices out there that I still can make to create a better life for me and for the lives of others. I strongly encourage you to take time out for the same type of reflections. Put a plan together for yourself, a “to do list” on how to stay healthy, happy and develop a strategy for yourself which can help you create the life you want.

Your biggest challenge may be simply getting a good night sleep! Our recent Take Back Your Sleep survey results show an overwhelming amount of women are truly struggling. Seventy-nine percent of menopausal women reported having trouble staying asleep, while 63 percent struggled just trying to fall to sleep. Don’t know how to put your sleep problems to rest? Here are a few resources that may have you counting sheep before you know it!

Last fall, we gave you the scoop on Hot Flash Havoc, a new award-winning documentary for women, family and friends who want to know more about menopause that features the Red Hot Mamas. The film really took off and is now considered a “must-see”. So, the producers are now making it available in several major cities around the country. Some special, one night only events are coming up in Denver on January 21, 2011; Minneapolis on January 23, 2011; Chicago on February 2, 2011. They’re getting fired up with more events in Dallas, Houston, Connecticut, Detroit, Holland MI, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and many more. Check on their website www.hotflashhavoc.net for more information.

In Red Hot Mamas program news, we would like to welcome aboard Metroplex Health System in Killeen, TX – a brand new site that will be offering RHM menopause education programming in 2011.
