Dear Ask the Experts,
I’ve been having dry eyes since menopause. Can you explain why this is happening? Thank you.
Cindy
Dear Cindy,
Thank you for logging onto our website. As we age, many women experience dry eyes. Their tear glands begin producing fewer tears which makes the eyes feel very uncomfortable. Allergies also contribute to this. Certain medications can also affect tear production. You should make an appointment to see an eye doctor. Make sure you get your eyes examined if you are experiencing vision problems, dry eyes, or have a family history of eye problems. Your eye doctor may recommend over-the counter artificial tears that lubricate your eyes or prescribe a medication to treat your dry eyes. Hope this information is of some help to you.
