“An optimist is the human personification of Spring” -Anonymous
Dear Red Hot Mamas,
I just received information about the new Apple watch that is not just a timepiece, but it also supposedly helps people connect to one another. They tout that you can even send to your favorite people your heartbeat. Just think you can wear it on your wrist at all times and keep track of everything every minute of the day.
Well, I think I’m going to pass at their daily offers I receive for buying this watch in my e mails each day. Why? It’s because I’ve surprised myself, at this particular chapter of my life, that I’ve made my smartphone to become so relevant in my life. I don’t know if I should feel sad or elated about this fact. My life has become fused to this smartphone. My smartphone is with me both day and night. And, the first thing I do when waking up is check my smartphone, as it sit handily on my nightstand while I sleep.
It wasn’t so long ago that we did not have cell phones. And, when they suddenly appeared, they were big, bulky, but gave us a sense of connectivity. For me it was like the first man landing on the moon. Little did I know that I would ever use this kind of device while eating, working, driving and become so addicted to using it.
I don’t think this is just a phenomenon to me. I travel the world and glance at all types of people, both young and old. Many of these folks never provide eye contact. They are entranced, looking at their smart phones.
Should we not declare a day that we all should just shut off our smartphones? Why? Perhaps we could not just recharge our batteries in our smartphone, but we could also recharge our personal relationships and have our eyes once again meet the world? This might fare to be an incredible thing.
The Spring is spreading its magic and every tree and bush is waking up to its splendor. I wish you a very happy Spring and a lovely year ahead.
Good Health to you,
Karen
