―English Proverb
Dear Red Hot Mamas,
March is finally here. I am so over the winter this year. It will be so nice to inhale the fresh smell of spring. Or, to be able to take a walk without shivering and to shed my down parka.
How many of you enjoy Spring? I’d love to know what you like about it. Personally, I cannot wait to hear tweeting birds outside my window again. And, to be able to open my windows for fresh air. Those things even energize me to begin my spring cleaning.
With the hope of bright sunshine for a few days in a row, we all should try to give back to our bodies. During the winter months many of us have been neglecting exercise. The Spring is a good time to get started again and to toss out some unhealthy habits we may have fallen into.
Here are simple things you can do:
- Go for a meaningful walk each day. Walking with my dog Marco helps to motivate me to walk. It’s great to breathe in clean air and feel the wind on my skin. And, it really helps to improve my mood. I get very happy when I see the pink blossoms in the trees.
- If you have access to a garden, spend 20 minutes a day weeding and planting. Nurturing plants will reap great rewards once you see those happy spring flowers appearing.
- Be active every day. Eliminate the “I don’t have time to work out today”. Embrace short but effective ways to get exercise into your daily lives.
- Don’t think of health as a punishment. Find physical activities and eating right as giving yourself a reward. It is a gift to becoming healthy and happy.
Happy Spring.
Good Health to You All,
Karen Giblin
