Friends are relatives you make for yourself”
Dear Red Hot Mamas,
Have you ever noticed how we, as women, oftentimes watch over one another? While attending Red Hot Mamas programs throughout the US, I’ve noticed how rich and rewarding friendships between women truly are.
Women seem to be able to pick up our spirits, even when we are feeling grim. They mentor us when we need it, and they have the ability to cheer us on. I don’t know about you, but every once in a while, I enjoy a cheerleader – one who evokes positive energy especially when I am in the midst of menopausal symptoms.
I’m totally convinced that developing friendships at menopause stimulates positive energy that has a great effect on our happiness, as well as our health. So, it’s important that we stay connected at menopause and try to surround ourselves with women who care about us. Be open-minded and kind to others and you will be amazed at how much happier and healthier you will feel.
In closing, I encourage you all to practice a relaxation exercise a few minutes daily in stress-repellent preparation for all the upcoming holidays this November and December brings. Find out how to relax your muscles and mind and let go of tension.
Here’s a simple stress reducing breathing exercise:
Either lie on the floor or sit comfortably in a chair. Put one hand on your belly and the other hand on your chest. Inhale through your nose, making sure that the hand on your belly rises and the hand on your chest moves hardly at all. As you inhale slowly, count to three. As you exhale through your parted lips slowly, count silently to four, feeling the hand on your belly falling gently.
Happy Thanksgiving!!
Good health to you all,
Karen Giblin
