This November is a very special month for Red Hot Mamas. It’s our 20th anniversary and it’s been 20 years since I experienced surgical menopause. I sure hope that you will enjoy reading about my story, and learning more about hysterectomy in this month’s issue. In the last two decades, we’re honored to have partnered with over 200 hospitals in the US and Canada to bring our education programs to life. I’m grateful to all of you for attending our Red Hot Mamas programs and for those of you who utilize our website as a valuable resource for midlife health information. Great health care starts with great education. Our commitment in the future is to continue to empower you by providing menopause health information so you can stay well now and in the future.
Our message is ringing on the world wide web! Our website took home another eHealthcare Leadership Award this year, which means we were recognized for our outstanding website and digital communication. The award recognizes our site as one that shows remarked enhancements in visual interest, perfecting navigation and showcasing a number of various mixed media outlets. From videos to social media tie-ins, www.redhotmamas.org works toward fully integrating these new media vehicles so we can bring you the quality health information you deserve. Awards were given in Orlando last week.
RHM’s voice is spreading throughout the Florida area, including the our program at Morton Plant Healthcare in Clearwater, FL last week! On November 10th, RHM co-hosted a Ladies Night Out event that featured TENA’s “Conversation Couch”. I thoroughly enjoyed mingling with the women and drinking mocktails at Ruth Eckerd Hall – a wonderful venue! If I may say so, local “menopause expert”, Dr. Stephanie Van Zandt, and I made a great team on the “couch” and were happy to answer all of the pressing health questions on everyone’s minds. Check out some Conversation Couch photos on Tena’s Facebook page. We’re looking forward to participating in more unique women’s health programming in 2012.
I have to say, it was lovely being in sunny Florida last week to take a break from the dreadful snow and evil weather many of us have been experiencing in the Northeast. I don’t like the cold. This time, I was prepared with lots of blankets, plenty of batteries, some good books and a refrigerator full of food. A lot of good this did me, considering our power was out for 5 days and all of the parishables spoiled after 3! We were one of the fortunate souls whose power returned early. Some of my friends in Massachusetts and Connecticut were without power for 10 days to two weeks.
The evil October Nor’easter seemed to pirate our Halloween fun, but I refuse to let anything interfere with my Thanksgiving! It’s one of my favorite holidays because I usually am fortunate to spend it with family and friends. I also love it because I love cooking. My kitchen transforms itself into a hot, humid, noisy gathering place of sliding cranberry sauce and mashed potato mountains. The calories can add up, so watch your portions and make sure you earn your food. Take a long walk in the morning and after dinner. The food will taste even better!
Good Health to You,
