The holidays can be a time when regular healthy routines go awry, but these five simple tips will help you enjoy a healthy festive season.

During the holidays your daily routines are replaced with festive activities – but that doesn’t mean you have to put a ho-ho-hold on your overall health. Here are five simple tips to help you stay on the “nice list” this season.

Handling stress: It’s no surprise that holiday to-do lists and errands can increase stress levels. But did you know that stress increases the level of hormones that cause cravings for junk food and sweets -? To avoid holiday pounds around the waist, reduce stress by taking a break from your merriment to stretch and take three deep breaths, allowing your mind and body to relax. Also, pack healthy snacks like carrots and nuts for those weak moments at the over-crowded mall.

Healthy eating: December is a time when many over-indulge, but just remember that rich holiday foods are not only high in calories and fat, they also can irritate your bladder. Break up your holiday meals by enjoying lean protein and salad for lunch, so you can indulge in your favorite holiday meal at dinner. Cranberries and pears make a great holiday addition to meals, and are also beneficial for your bladder and digestion! Click here for more bladder-friendly food tips and great festive recipe ideas.

Exercise: It can be hard to keep up a regular exercise routine during the holidays, but the benefits are plentiful, including keeping weight off, increasing bone density, improving cardio health and keeping regular. Working out with resistance bands is an easy fix. Not only are they easy to pack, it makes working out possible virtually anywhere. Incorporating walks with family and friends after a holiday meal is an easy way to enjoy some fresh winter air and help digestion. Try incorporating kegel exercises, too! Kegels strengthen the pelvic floor and the muscles that control your bladder— and they can be done sitting in the car, waiting in a store line or watching a holiday movie.

Holiday Road: Home for the holidays isn’t for everyone, as many are busy travelling to visit family and friends. Looking for the nearest bathroom when on the road can be challenging in a different city. So make sure to use the Bathroom Finder, an online resource that quickly and accurately locates dozens of the nearest public bathrooms by simply entering a city or postal code. This is a great tool to help you plan ahead so you can stay comfortable while travelling to and from your holiday destinations.

Pack your bags: When visiting family and friends, be sure to pack a small overnight bag in case the weather turns and you need to stay off the roads. Always remember to bring your medications. And, if you have bladder weakness issues, make sure to bring along some pad and/or underwear products so that your condition won’t get in the way of your holiday fun. TENA® has a full range of products in different styles and absorbency levels for men and women, so you can choose which product meets your lifestyle needs.

Keeping these simple tips in mind this holiday season will help you maintain great core health while keeping the holidays happy!
