Dear Red Hot Mamas,
Thank you so much for being here to answer my question. I am going to have a hysterectomy next month so I’m feeling a bit anxious. My doctor has told me what to expect after the surgery, but I need help so that I am prepared when I go to the hospital. I just don’t want to forget anything that would help me during my stay. I most appreciate any information you can provide.
Barbara
Dear Barbara,
Thanks for writing to us. Being organized as you enter the hospital certainly should reduce some of your stress. Here are a few things you can do:
Bring a pen and paper to write down your questions and special instructions your doctor may give you
Leave your valuables like jewelry, laptop at home.
Bring a full list of your medications
Pack loose nightgowns, a robe and slippers and bring your toiletries
Pack comfortable clothes for when you leave the hospital
Since you may be in the hospital for several days you may want to bring a good book or magazine to help you pass the time.
Have a family member or friend with you for support. Most surgeons appreciate having a family member or friend to talk to after the operation so that he/she can explain the outcome of the surgery.
Good luck with your procedure and hospital stay.
