As the seasons change, we all must look for ways to prepare for a healthy autumn.
I’ve put away my summer clothes (always an effort for me); the pumpkin carving activities have come to an end; and the leaves are piling up around my house. Now our clocks “fall back” from daylight savings time. This means shorter daylight hours and for me this has a major effect on my body and my psyche. I simply don’t feel right. I also truly abhor it becoming dark at 6 pm each night. Personally, it’s during this time that my nesting instincts kick in and all I want to do is to hunker down for the winter and stay in. So, I’ve had to make some changes, when the time and weather changes occur. I’d like to share those with you:
In order for me to not have a perpetual feeling of being jet-lagged, I make sure that I get in daily exercise to raise those endorphins. The air is brisk and cool, and the Fall foliage is breathtaking! This enhances my mind and body when I’m out walking during the daylight hours. I also found a new class at the local gym that really has lifted my spirits. I am also very fortunate to have a lot of farm stands where I live in New Jersey. They have a lot of fresh locally grown fruits and vegetables. This makes it easier to eat healthy, delicious foods that promote good health.
I encourage you all to take a look at yourself this Fall. Please don’t “fall back” with the time change or “fall back” on taking care of your health. The Fall is an excellent time for you to make yourself a priority and make improvements to your health. You have a window of opportunity before the rush and stress of the holiday season.
I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving. Good health to you all,
Karen Giblin
