According to a report in Physician’s First Watch, women who use hormone therapy are at marginally increased risk or dying from breast cancer, according to a new analysis from the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). An earlier analysis from the WHI found a higher incidence of breast cancer but did not report on mortality. The JAMA conclusion, according to the abstract, noted, “Estrogen plus progestin was associated with greater breast cancer incidence, and the cancers are more commonly node-positive.Breast cancer mortality also appears to be increased with combined use of estrogen plus progestin.” Dr. James Simon, Medical Director of Red Hot Mamas affiliate site, MenopauseWise comments on the recent report.
