Dear Red Hot Mamas,
I have been feeling far more stressed since menopause happened to me. There have been so many changes that have occurred within my family obligations as well as menopausal symptoms occurring that I need some suggestions from Red Hot Mamas as to how to reduce the stress in my life (my menopausal symptoms are now controlled). Thank you for your support and being there to help me and other women.
Casey
Dear Casey,
Thank you for writing to Red Hot Mamas. When you manage stress, you can prevent it from being a significant part of your life. One of the best ways to reduce stress is to exercise. Exercise reduces our stress levels and makes us feel calmer. It helps us to feel less overwhelmed by the stresses we face. Walking regularly, for instance, increases our endorphins in the brain, decreases anxiety and tension, as well as elevates our mood. Also, relaxation techniques, biofeedback, and mental imagery also may be helpful in reducing stress. Yoga may also be helpful. Please also keep in mind that it is important to eat a healthy diet. Stay away from food vices such as sugar and too much caffeine and alcohol, as well as smoking. Try to get enough sleep. Consider some changes in mental habits, for instance like learning to recognize what is stressing you the most and looking at the situation that is producing the stress. If there is a certain thing or person that agitates you, think of ways in which you can change it. Try to develop coping skills. Learn to take time out when you start to feel stressed. Learn to say no. You do not have to be the one that has to do it all. And learn to prioritize your time and yourself. You should make a conscious effort to take time to do things that make you happy. We hope these measures are of some help to you.
