A real study at the University of Oxford found that married women are significantly less likely to die of heart disease than their unmarried counterparts. (1)

Here’s something you should know: Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year. That’s approximately one woman every minute!

So if being married makes this great of a difference, these new findings are great. It looks like science if in favor of relationships and that there is true value in marriage. An explanation to this may be that married spouses tend to encourage one another to engage in healthy lifestyles, like exercise; and they also encourage each another to stick to treatments their doctors have put them on.

However, the marriage advantage doesn’t extend to bad relationships which certainly can leave a person far less healthy than if she had never married at all.
So, in closing, without a doubt, marriage is a complex experience when it pertains to our health. There are upsides and downsides, but this new study certainly has a marriage protection hypothesis when it comes to married women becoming less likely to die from heart disease.
