Dear Red Hot Mamas,
Thank you for having this ask the expert column. I tend to always get sick during the holidays. Can you please send me your thoughts in how I might reduce my chances of getting sick? I most appreciate it.
Kayla
Dear Kayla,
Thank you for writing to us. We all agree that our lives seem hectic and sometimes our activities are overwhelming during the holiday season. It may take away from the pleasure in celebrating with our family and friends if we become sick.
Here are a few simple steps you can take to stay healthy during the holiday season:
Wash your hands with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds. Hand washing is important. If you don’t have water and soap, use a hand sanitizer
Get a flu shot
Stay warm. Dress in layers and stay dry
Manage stress and don’t overcommit yourself
Get enough sleep
Eat healthy and eat in moderation. Incorporate more fruits and vegetables in your diet instead of those snacks, appetizers and cookies
Exercise and stay active. Why not dance to those holiday tunes you hear on the radio? It may even put you in the holiday spirit
Be inspired and stay in the spirit of good health!
