“It’s hard to beat a person who never gives up.”
– Babe Ruth
Dear Red Hot Mamas,
As a young girl I was fortunate to live near an outdoor ice rink which I visited almost every day. Ice Skating taught me a lot of things. It taught me when I fell, I had to get back up and to never give up. At that time, and even today, ice skating has always improved my happiness quotient!
I know there are times when I have felt as if I had the weight of the world on my shoulders, but I’ve always tried to pick myself up and keep going. I use what I have learned through ice skating that you can’t afford to get distracted by things in life, out of the risk of losing balance and falling. So, it’s important to focus on what is truly important and sometimes forget about your woes. And it may take a lot of determination and control to do this!
Through my friendships with all of you, I’ve also learned that I am not alone when struggling with life’s blows. Life sometimes can have its ups and downs like a roller coaster. It has its endless setbacks and comebacks which we all must develop resilience to.
It is important that when you feel that life is knocking you down, please don’t accept defeat. Get up and move forward. Mark Twain once said, “I have been through some terrible things in my life, some of which actually happened.” You should keep your attention on the here and now. And, when you are feeling overwhelmed it may be helpful to ask yourself “what is really important”. You should make a conscious decision into what you put your greatest amount of energy into, and how you can pick yourself up if you feel that you are falling.
So, in closing, I encourage you to look at the obstacles in your life, and don’t be discouraged, keep moving and pay great attention to trying aways to get back up again.
Good Health to you all,
Karen Giblin
