Dear Red Hot Mamas,
December invites us to pause and reflect-not just on the year past, but on the journey of menopause itself. This season, give yourself permission to honor how far you’ve come, acknowledge the challenges that you have had, and celebrate the strengths you have made.
And, as we all look ahead to a new year, envision the possibilities that menopause opens up. Whether it’s exploring new activities, deepening relationships or prioritizing health in fresh ways, December is the perfect time to start planning.
Eight Ways to Tackle Menopause in Winter. Strategies to help women navigate the unique challenges of menopause during December’s cold, busy and often emotionally charged season with greater comfort and confidence:
- Prioritize Comfort – Keep cozy with layered clothing to counter winter chills and hot flashes.
- Boost Vitamin D Levels – Limited sunlight in December can affect mood as well as bone health-Get sunlight exposure when possible. About 10 – 15 minutes of sunlight each day may produce vitamin D even in the winter. Maintaining outdoor physical activity not only helps with vitamin D production but also improves mood during darker months.
- Maintain a Balanced Diet – Focus on nutrient rich winter foods abundant in calcium and antioxidants to support bones, skin and immunity.
- Stay Hydrated – Dry indoor air and holiday indulgences can cause dehydration -drink plenty of water to stay balanced.
- Manage Stress – Holiday pressures can amplify menopause stress-try meditation, deep breathing relaxation techniques when necessary.
- Prioritize Your Sleep – Holiday excitement and alcohol can disrupt sleep. Try creating a calming routine before bedtime. A cool, dark bedroom environment helps.
- Stay Socially Connected – Engage in supportive conversations with friend or other Red Hot Mamas on (www.inspire.com) where women share their experiences and reduce their feelings of isolation.
- Plan to Relax – Schedule downtime amid holiday busyness to rest, read or enjoy peaceful solitude which will help you recharge your body and mind.
In closing, I wish each of you a peaceful and joyful holiday season filled with warmth, self-care and moments of happiness.
Good Health to You All,
