“The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.”
– Pablo Picasso
Dear Red Hot Mamas,
We are truly lucky and should celebrate being women. And, most women reading this probably are either approaching the fifty year mark, or maybe even older. I certainly can relate to that now that I’m in my 60’s. In fact, more than 98 million people in North America will turn 60 during the next 20 years. that mean’s many of you baby boomers are or will be turning 60 too. And, I’m not succumbing to the stereotypes and misconceptions many of us hold onto about aging. I still have a lot of passions I’d like to pursue and contributions I want to make in society to keep me busy for years to come.
I think what is important for us to remember is that age is merely a number. Just because we are aging doesn’t mean you cant strive to achieve more or increase the excitement you once had in life. Now, you have the added experience to succeed in whatever you set out to do. Just remember to stay young at heart. Theres’s certainly no need to pause at menopause. Embrace the change and live life to its fullest potential.
Here are a few tips that may help bring good health, happiness and fulfillment in your life:
Keep learning- this should be a lifetime goal. It can create greater opportunities out there for you. Perhaps, it could help you to make a change in your career, or to start your own business. Educate yourself in what you are really interested in achieving. Even if it is learning to play an instrument, learning a new language or even singing if this helps bring happiness in your life.
Exercise– this is not time to slow down, so get moving. Yes, menopause brings about a major metamorphosis in our bodies. So it’s time to get in gear and not slack off with much needed exercise. Exercise is essential to help you stay fit, firm and protect you from development of heart disease, osteoporosis, and other illnesses. It also will help you with some of those menopause symptoms you may experience like mood issues. Yes, exercise helps raise endorphins and will help with moods. Also, it will help reduce stress levels and help with sleep. And, just think how much confidence you will have when you notice a difference in how you look and how healthy you feel. Before beginning any exercise, make sure you visit your healthcare professional to help you get started ad to avoid aches, pains or injury.
Bring happiness to others- Friendships is one of the best things in life. There is a real sincere pleasure to be found in pleasing others. It is a kind of pleasure that cannot be gained from anything else.
In closing, my wish for you is to remind you to take good care of your health, treat yourself lovingly and with kindness. Embark on menopause, and the years thereafter, with energy, good friends, laughter, and excitement.
Good Health to You All,
Karen Giblin
