Dear Red Hot Mamas,
It’s finally spring and that means many of us are going through our closets. We look at our wardrobes like they were an art collection. Do you remember when we used to try to match everything – the shoes, the handbag with the outfit? Today, times have changed. Certainly, if we did this now, we would date ourselves. It’s now an era where those matchy-matchy outfits are simply passé. They make us look older.
Upon looking at the fashion magazines, it looks like dressing a little quirky is now appearing to be more interesting. It allows us to have a more independent spirit and lets us look effortlessly chic. So there are new rules when it comes to looking fashionable.
I’ve had to muster up the courage to toss out items in my closet that have been sitting there for years. I would love to know if you still have things like I have that are hanging in your closets, too. In editing my closet, I’m about to donate all those ripped jeans; T shirts I’ve received as souvenirs; baggy holiday sweaters; cargo pants; blazers with shoulder pads; just to name a few things. These are clothes that just have to go.
The new chic is to dress comfortably. You can look up to date by breaking the rules you used to apply by dressing and saying goodbye to matching everything in your wardrobe. Now, prints can be mixed with plaids, strips, polka dots. Learn to become a mix master to be current, and in fashion. But remember, you have to be discriminating and not to buy anything that doesn’t flatter your figure.
In closing, there are no rules anymore. You don’t have to look like you tried too hard. And, have fun unmatching your wardrobe.
Good health to you all,
Karen Giblin
