“Where flowers bloom so does hope.”

Dear Red Hot Mamas,

Spring has finally arrived. Flowers are blooming, the days are staying light longer, the air is warmer, and there are many more things that we can do outdoors! I know that I revel in the longer daylight hours. Personally, they are a major mood-booster for me!

Once the weather warms up, it’s a whole lot more enjoyable to return to an exercise program. Yes, I know no matter what the weather that exercising is important. But it is so much more enjoyable when you can do it outdoors. It seems to revitalize us more.

So, please get moving and try to do your work out in nature. I assure you that it will have a positive effect on the way you feel. Try to focus on the scenic views of nature, the beautiful flowers, tulips, daffodils and cherry trees. It will make your outdoor workout more fun.

Many of us lack vitamin D. Being outside in the spring sunshine gives us a dose of vitamin D which helps to keep our bones strong. And, for me, I am more motivated to lose weight. Spring provides me with plenty of inspiration to stick to diet goals and to ignore the siren call of my Lazy-boy recliner.

In Spring, salads always begin to sound tempting and delicious. It’s also a lot easier to find fresh vegetables and enjoy healthier food.  Fresh produce is not just good for our bodies, but it’s also good for our souls.

So, in closing, my suggestion is that it’s time that we all get off our couches, that we turn off our exciting programs on Netflix, and that we get out of our house and enjoy Spring.  Seize the beautiful Spring days by creating a healthier lifestyle for yourself.

Good Health To You All,

Karen Giblin
